BSA Troop 144 August 12, 2008
7:10pm Meeting called to order by Committee Chairman Mr. Tim Outten
Old Business
1. Pictures of troop- it was recommended to check out the pictures on the website.
To download pictures from the website there is a program called Picasso that you can download to your computer and then you will be able to download the pictures and you could send them on to the Wal-Mart website if you want to purchase prints
2. Trips this summer- several very successful trips this summer: Philmont, White water rafting, Summer camp at Grimes
New Business
1. Popcorn sales- need person to oversee the sale of the popcorn- training is soon
A side note: as the troop continues to grow to 50 in the next year there is an increase need for fundraising ideas to fund the trips.
2. Fundraiser Chairperson- there is a need for a person who would, take volunteers to chair the individual fundraisers. They would be the “go to” person for the schedule of fundraisers and would keep their finger on the pulse of this very important responsibility of the committee.
A. Idea for fundraiser- pine straw- Vince Foster
3. Annual planning-All day event this past weekend.
Mr. Worthy reviewed the tentative schedule of outdoor events that came from the planning meeting.
Mr. Coffman spoke about the planning day. He said there were 25 in attendants. They received the National Youth leadership training.
Scout Master’s update
From the planning he said that the troop has already been requested to do the Veteran’s day flag retirement in Mint Hill. Last year the service was very memorable.
Summer camp- 68 merit badges completed. 30 partials to be finished
Rank advancements- there will be many upcoming
Number in troop We have the potential to have the number in the troop increase to 65
Large vehicle- he asked the committee to think of ways to obtain a large vehicle for trips it would be more cost effective and more fun for the troop.
Fall Merit Badges-many merit badges are planned to be taught in the fall
Upcoming Eagles- 8-9 scouts who are approaching being Eagles
Approved Eagle Project- Troy Kling’s project was approved by the council
Guests: The Cunninghams were introduced as they sat in on the committee meeting. Their son is going to be making a change in his troop and is checking out several troops

4. This weekend is the Family camp out. It will be a small group. To be at the church by 6pm Friday and return by 2pm Sunday.
5. Committee voted on the schedule for outdoor activities for next year and it was approved
Merit Badges- will be handled by Steve Murphy
Rank advancement- John Dick
1. Boards of review –several coming up
2. 7 eagle projects
3. In the future 2 tier camping trips
4. Revised rank advancement procedure
5. Discussed about future mentoring program: an adult leader follows a few scouts to assist them with their rank advancement
6. Plans to have a night to work with the scouts that are life and star to talk about Eagle projects and how to pick one, and write it up.
It was recommended to take time to see the scout building in the back of the educational building and see the progress that has been made. As well as the amphitheater.
Possible changes in the website so the scouts can use it as a tool to better communicate to each other.
Final note:
We will be needing a person to be the outdoor chairman starting next year, see Mr.Worthy
