August 2008
August was a great month for the troop. There was slow but steady progress on the new scout storage building. A special thanks to everyone who has donated time to this project. We had a great family camping trip to Morrow Mountain. The scouts are ready for a great school year!

July 2008
What a busy and fun summer it has been. Philmont Crew 619-S made it back safely! Summer camp was awesome at Camp Grimes. By the way, Camp Grimes made some serious upgrades this summer. Check out the pictures in the photograph section for highlights from Philmont and Summer Camp.

May/June 2008
Troop 144 has been busy with a variety of events. The Philmont Crew is finalizing preparation for their trip. The rest of the troop is getting ready for summer camp at Camp Grimes. The scout building continues a slow but steady progress. Soon we will be able to store our supplies in our own building!

April 20, 2008
We had a great weekend at Camp Grimes. We were blessed with quite a bit of "liquid sunshine" during most of Saturday. It was a great opportunity for our new scouts to get a taste of setting up their own tents, cooking their own meals, and hiking for 5 miles around the camp. The camp is incredible and has many great features - a waterfront area, a frontier area, and even an indoor climbing area. Summer camp is going to be great!

March 16, 2008
Although we had a change in plans due to weather conditions - as scouts we were prepared to adjust and boy, was it an exciting day. Instead of a full fledged camping weekend with the new scouts, we opted for a single day of activities culminating in the crossover ceremony. The dinner was delicious. Everyone had their fill of ribs and chicken. Then we all walked down the "Eagle Trail" to the ampitheater where the Webelos crossed over into Boy Scouts. There was not a dry eye. Welcome new boys, to the adventure of a lifetime!

February 18, 2008
Another fantastic scouting trip! We went to Uwharrie National Forest for our Scoutmaster Surprise. Saturday was filled with hiking, games, advancement. A real highlight of the weekend was the "Iron Chef Challenge". Each patrol was given identical ingredients and were judged by the adults and the Senior Patrol Leader. All entries were absolutely delicious but the Duct Tape Patrol's cheese chicken rice dish (made in a dutch oven no less!) won first place.

January 27, 2008
The Troop ski troop to Appalachian Ski Mountain was a great success! We had the opportunity to ski both the afternnon session and the evening session. We stayed overnight in a lodge at the Advent Christian Camp. Then, in the morning Mr. Coffman treated all of the scouts to a great breakfast. After our worship service we packed up and headed home!
